Congratulations "HERON" - Swimming Carnival 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Well Done Toolooa. What a performance! The 2009 swimming carnival held on Thursday 26th March was very well attended and student participation was the best we’ve seen in years. Even before the carnival started there were questions that were raised, would the mighty Curtis careport be on track for another win or could the bountiful numbers in Heron, spirited Keppel or plentiful participation rates of Elliott, rise to the occasion?

It has been 18 years since Curtis has lost a swimming carnival, so there was a lot of pride and expectation that they would continue in their winning ways. All students went to great lengths to show their careport pride, with students in a sea of colours and their new captains urging the teams on. Students went to great lengths to show where their loyalties lye, including the ‘Heron turtles’, the Keppel bees‘’ and where would it be without the ‘Keppel Mexicans or Curtis Toga’s’. Suffice to say, students proved that swimmers of all types can get in and have a go, taking with them their beloved floating devices.
With only 192 points separating first to fourth place. The competition was close for all houses. However on the day Heron were Triumphant through great participation rates and hard working student leaders. The main events included butterfly, freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke. Melissa Hankinson provided record breaking performances in under 19 Butterfly, and Freestyle. Congratulations also to brother Michael who broke the under 15 Butterfly record. Well done Melissa and Michael. Finally, we must not forget the efforts of the teachers who showed off their unusual swimming skills, proving that Toolooa not only has great students, but great teachers as well.
The best thing to come out of the event was everyone having fun and participating. Overall, the day was a huge success. Congratulations to those students who got involved. A big thank you must go out to the teachers involved and the PE department for organising the day.
