Welcome back for Term 2
Our second school term of the year commenced this week. Term one was a very positive term for our school and it is very gratifying to see many of our students continuing to work towards well thought out and structured personal goals.
The message this term for our school community is a continued focus on ‘being the best that you can be’. This is a simple message, with important implications for personal organisation, effort and positive attitudes and one that our students must be continually focussed upon during this concentrated period of learning.
Fame – Toolooa’s 2009 School Musical
On May 1 and 2, our students will take to the stage at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre for performances of the musical, ‘Fame’.
Students, under the guidance of many members of our staff, have spent a considerable amount of time and effort preparing for this event. They are very proud of their achievements in preparing for this event and are excited about staging a performance for our school community.
Your presence in the audience would be a great buzz for our students and a very public recognition of their effort, positive attitude and talent.
Attendance
Attendance in lessons at school everyday is extremely important. Missing any lesson is an opportunity lost.
During the last week of Term One, our school had 980 student absences – Monday - 132; Tuesday - 150; Wednesday - 296 and Thursday - 402. This is an extremely large number of absences that is part of a roundabout that says, ‘teachers don’t teach new work in the last week of term’ and ‘students don’t turn up so I can’t consolidate or teach new work’.
The message for everyone is that lessons finish at 3:00pm on the last day of term and I have an expectation that students will be at school, engaged in learning.
QCS Test Chief Community Representatives
To maintain the accountability, security and proper conduct of the QCS Test at test centres, the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) appoints members of the community to carry out duties on behalf of the QSA. Therefore, we invite members of the community to apply for the positions of Chief Community Representative for the Year 12 QCS test, taking place September 1and 2, 2009. Main responsibilities include supervising the testing process and handling of QCS Test materials. These are paid positions. If you are interested in applying, please contact the office on 4971 4333 to organise application paperwork.
