YEAR 8 SOSE
Year 8 students have recently returned from the annual Carnarvon Gorge excursion. Carnarvon Gorge is truly a uniquely Australian experience and our Year 8 students are privileged to have had this opportunity.
The weather was kind to the two groups this year. Unfortunately, due to flooding and wash outs last year, the trip was cancelled. This year, however, the walking tracks in the National Park were in excellent condition. For years, the Amphitheatre has been closed but has been recently reopened and our students had the opportunity to test their singing abilities in a perfect, natural, acoustic theatre. All reports from staff and students cite this excursion as a wonderful experience, as evidenced in the student report below.
Many thanks to Ms King as trip organiser, Mr O’Connor as Year 8 co-ordinator and the staff - Mr Doyle, Mr Althaus and Ms Patzwald, who all made the trip a success.
YEAR 11/12 GEOGRAPHY
Seniorgeography students have been studying the geography of disease. This has been very timely, as they were well informed of pandemics prior to the recent swine fever outbreak. This has been part of a unit on People and Development which connects with current affairs such as poverty, food aid, boat people, piracy and so on.
GENERAL SOCIAL SCIENCE
As part of studying social science to become informed citizens, I urge parents to help their students to be well informed by encouraging them to listen to news broadcasts, read local and national newspapers and news internet sites and discuss current affairs at home. This is an important part of assisting us in educating your student for life.
