Congratulations to Year 12 Toolooa State High School student Matthew Geddes has been awarded a Defence Technical Scholarship that will provide him with financial assistance throughout his year 12 studies.

Matthew applied for the scholarship in February of this year. He had to be enrolled in specific subjects and demonstrate (in his own words) why he might consider an ADF technical trade career. Matthew was required to participate in a selection procedure that included sitting an aptitude test.

The scholarship is designed to encourage and support students to undertake specific mathematics and vocational subjects and complete their senior certificate. Defence offered up to 1500 Scholarships across Australia per school year and with over 2500 schools eligible to participate it was a competitive process. Matthew has just discovered he was a successful applicant and received his first scholarship payment of $1000 on school assembly this week. He will receive a further payment throughout the year. Matthew will receive $3000 in total to assist him with fees, materials and other education related costs.
