SCHOOL OPINION SURVEYS
Each year, Education Queensland undertakes a survey of parents, students and staff to gauge their satisfaction with important aspects of schooling. Later in the year, a report will be available for our school that will help evaluate and reflect on how well our school is going and to identify areas for future development.
In the past week, School Opinion Surveys have been distributed to forty families, sixty Year 9 students, sixty year 11 students and all members of our staff. Our aim is to gauge the perceptions of each group and ultimately make our school a better place for all concerned.
Your completion and return of this survey is one way that you can have your say about our school now and the future directions that we might explore as we continue to enhance the positive learning environment at our school.
SCIENCE CHALLENGE
Congratulations to Courtney Rohde, Andrea Rowe, Chantel Selmanovic, Kimberley Warren, Greg Hartogh, Bonnie Beard and Rhys Gordon, our students in Year 11 who spent last Friday, Saturday and Sunday engaging in the Schools’ Science Challenge.
Our students worked in teams led by industry and teacher mentors, to solve a complex scientific problem and completed their task by presenting their findings to a gathering of parents, mentors, teachers and invited guests.
The Science Challenge is an opportunity for students to explore and experience a field of science that they are considering as a future study option in tertiary education.
SUBJECT SELECTIONS
Our school will host a Senior Pathways Evening on Wednesday, August 19 to provide additional information on Yr 10 to Yr 11 subject selections for 2010. In addition, the evening will also be an opportunity for students and parents to speak with our senior staff regarding the range of possible learning pathways beyond Yr 10.
Join us in our school library from 6:00pm and be an active participant in mapping your student’s journey into the senior phase of learning in our school.
What is the Queensland Core Skills Test?
The QCS Test is:
· a common state-wide test for Queensland Year 12 students
· an achievement test — not an intelligence test nor an aptitude test
· grounded in the Queensland senior curriculum
· accessible to all Year 12 students, regardless of individual differences in subject patterns.
It tests 49 common curriculum elements (CCEs) of the Queensland senior curriculum.
The level of sophistication demanded by the test is appropriate to Year 12 students. Particular knowledge of specific senior subjects is not tested, however the test assumes basic levels of general knowledge and vocabulary and Year 10 knowledge of mathematical operations.
