Vocational Studies and Design The Vocational studies and Design subject area offers courses involving the development of hand-eye co-ordination and the learning of associated theories relating to Materials, Technology and Graphical Communication In the workshops students will work with Hand tools, Power tools and Machinery to manipulate a range of materials included in the study areas of:
SHOP A (woodwork) and SHOP B (metalwork) The courses are designed as a project-based program of study in a workshop environment. Students will be involved with the nature, application and working of materials as well as designing, making and appraising. Learning experiences will include the following activities:
From these courses offered in Years 8, 9 and 10 the students will gain the necessary pre-requisite skills for Senior Subjects of Industrial Skills – Furnishing and Industrial Skills – Engineering, both of which are Certificate 1 courses Safety is an integral part of all courses. The development of safe procedures and safe habits is a major aspect of Vocational Studies and Design. Graphics Students will work with manual drafting equipment to discover the concepts of Drafting and Graphical Communication. They will then be extended into Computer Graphics, using industry standard AutoCAD® 2005 software, learning menus and basic application methods to produce computer generated drawings. |
