PRESTIGIOUS AWARD!
It was pleasing to be advised last week that the Gladstone Area State Secondary Schools Alliance and its industry partners were awarded a $50 000 prize by the Schools First organisation, for the alliance’s work over many years in establishing strong partnerships with industry in our region.
This has led to wonderful pathways for students that help them transition from school to work, and had enabled our local businesses to have more industry-ready employers.
Thanks to all those involved in establishing e.g. Engineering Skills Centre at NRG, the Business and I.T. Skills Centre at BSL, the Doorways to Civil Construction program at Golding, the Australian Technical College in Goondoon St, the GAGAL pre-trade program, part-time TAFE courses and over 1000 work experience placements.
Special thanks go to the Rio Tinto Alcan Community Fund for providing seed funding for a number of these projects, and for funding a Project Officer who is presently planning how to bring all these off-site programs under one umbrella… watch for more news about EQIP Gladstone!
COMMUNITY AND INDUSTRY LINKS
Last week our Year 10 students had an opportunity to have an active part in that important job skill – the interview.
Interviewers from the community and local business gave generously of their time to work with students and to provide feedback on the interview performance.
The positive comments from the interview team regarding the presentation, personal conduct and job awareness of our students was great feedback to our Year 10 Futures teachers.
Congratulations to our students who took part in the activity and many thanks to the interview teams and teachers who made the day an enjoyable and engaging learning experience.
