It was lights, camera, action around the school grounds as our Year 10 Media students filmed the Toolooa High version of Crime Scene Investigation.

This term our media students have been studying crime shows and were set the
task of researching, writing and filming their own episode, Teacher and director,
Shaun Cathro, said “This was a way to make the students’ studies more practical
and to put theory into action.”

The episode is shaping up to be full of intrigue and mystery. It opens with the
school’s cleaner finding the basketball coach dead after a match the night before.
Toolooa High investigators are called in to crack the case. The amount of
randomly scattered gun shells at the scene suggests that our killer is not
competent with a firearm. The football shoeprint on the coach’s face provides the
investigators with another lead to follow.

Mr. Cathro said “Every student wrote a scene and they were then combined and
edited to make a whole episode. The students had only five weeks to come up
with an idea for a crime show and write the script. When it was ready, we started
filming around the school.”

It’s been a challenging task for our young film makers who are also acting in and
editing the show. Once the episode is wrapped up, our Year 11 students will be
analysing the show as part of their English study.
Who did it? You’ll have to wait for the episode debut, coming to a classroom
soon!
