‘Lunch On The Lawn’ A Huge Success!

The Senior Leadership team began their planning for this year before they finished school in 2017 – they were very eager to get started!  They had two clear goals:

  1. Build school and community spirit
  2. Raise funds for the Oncology units at the Base and Mater Hospitals to support families affected by breast cancer

To this end, we have organised a number of fundraising activities throughout the year, but we had grand plans for the school to come together for one big event – ‘Lunch on the Lawn’. The idea was pretty simple: we wanted to show our school spirit through service to the wider community and celebrate all the wonderful things about Toolooa. With the support of our wonderful P&C and Mr. Harrison, we worked collaboratively with Ms Taylor’s senior VSW class to organise an extended lunch break where students had the opportunity to enjoy the pizza they had pre-ordered, listen to the smooth sounds of ‘Moderate Funk’ (thank you, Mrs MacDonald and Mr Dearaugo!) and cheer loudly for the ‘Toolooa Bolt’. We raised money through the sale of pizzas (and other yummy food and drinks) and also by inviting students to wear pink free dress.

The school community wholeheartedly embraced this event and it was a wonderful example of Toolooa spirit. We all enjoyed celebrating the end of a very busy term three as well as raising much-needed funds for our local hospitals.

Cancer is something that comes knocking on everyone’s door in some way at some point and unfortunately, its detrimental impact unites us all. ‘Lunch on the Lawn’ saw our entire school united in our efforts to do something to fight back.

Thank you to everyone who supported this event. Over the course of the year, your support has seen us exceed our fundraising goals and we have reached over $6000. We look forward to donating this money to our two hospitals later this term.
