2015 Dux Presentation

2015 Dux Presentation
Every year at the annual awards night Toolooa High recognises between 3 and 5 outstanding academic achievement award from the year 12 cohort. It is from this group of students that the school dux is announced the following year once OP results have been released.
Traditionally this is presented on our first recognition parade however the 2015 recipient was unable to attend so the presentation was made the first week back at school on the full school assembly. The Toolooa SHS Dux of 2015 was Kaitlyn Read. Kaitlyn sent a short message in lieu of her absence.
Good Morning parents, students and staff. I am very proud to have been named DUX of Toolooa SHS for 2015 however it was not an award I received by working on my own. I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to my teachers since Grade eight and especially those from 11 and 12 and my parents who put up with my whinging and complaining. I am now living and working in Brisbane and very excited to be starting my Dual degree in Paramedic Science and Nursing at QUT.
You will hear lots of people say practice makes perfect, and yes it does, but just practicing school work only makes you good at school work. One thing that I learnt early on in my education was the importance of not making everything revolve around just the academic side of school. Yes, subjects at school are very important but things that you enjoy outside of school such as meeting friends, sport, music etc are just as vital to achieving success and being your own person. I believe my involvement in a wide range of activities is part of the reason I remained as focussed on my school work and achieved the results I wanted to.
I wish everyone a great year this year and good luck to all the graduating year 12's. Have a great year!!
