Attention: Parents/Guardians of Year 9 Students

31/08/2017
Attention:
Parents/Guardians of Year 9 Students

New senior assessment and tertiary entrance systems begin in Queensland for our present Year 9 cohort. A key change to the system is the introduction of the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). The ATAR will be introduced for students commencing Year 11 in 2019, who will graduate at the end 2020 and seek entry to tertiary courses from 2021. The ATAR is the primary mechanism, used nationally, for tertiary admissions and indicates a student’s position relative to other students. The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) will calculate ATARs for Queensland school leavers.

QTAC is pleased to extend an invitation to the first of the Gladstone Parents’ Power Hour sessions to be held at Gladstone State High School - Technical College on Monday 4 September at 6.00pm. The information session will cover a range of topics including eligibility, pathways, inter-subject scaling, subject choices and MYPATH, the new QTAC tool which will assist student in their study planning. It’s critical that parents are fully informed on how important subject selection for Year 10 is, and how it can influence ATAR eligibility and university prerequisites. QTAC is able to provide a depth of knowledge to parents to ensure they have the information to support their children moving forward.

The Power Hour is complimentary, however booking is essential. If you wish to attend, you will need to book through the QTAC events registration system at the following link:

Please note the following information from QTAC: places are limited; we ask that only one parent attends to allow the widest possible attendance at each session.
