Instrumental Music

Workshops with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra Toolooa Instrumental Music students have been extremely busy this year. On Friday 21 April we held a series of workshops at school for our Concert Band, Symphonic Band and String Orchestra. In these workshops students were given the opportunity to work with world renowned guest conductors Professor Rob McWilliams and Mark Sullivan.

On Wednesday 31 May the Queensland Symphony Orchestra returned to Gladstone to run a series of full day workshops for Gladstone district high school Instrumental Music students, culminating in a sold-out evening performance at the GECC.
The Symphonic Band worked under the direction of Rob McWilliams.

And Concert Band students were led by Mr Richard Madden.

The final item of the evening saw the combined Symphonic Bands of Toolooa SHS, GSHS and Tannum Sands SHS accompany a choir of 100 primary school students in a moving rendition of I Am The Earth.

2017 Instrumental Music Camp

Once again the Instrumental Music students demonstrated that they know how to mix hard work with a lot of fun at our annual Instrumental Music Camp which was held at Tanyalla over the weekend of May 26-28.

Friday night kicked off with a glow stick treasure hunt.

Each morning began with a beach walk.

Rehearsals were broken up with a series of Rotational Challenges.

On Saturday afternoon teams built defensive structures on the beach.

In preparation for a massive water balloon battle.

Saturday night was the traditional Campfire where many marshmallows were toasted.

Our students danced up a storm.

And had a Camp Fire sing-along.

Interspersed between all the activities (and eating), lots of rehearsals also took place.

Congratulations must go to our incredible group of year 12 Instrumental Music students who this year planned, organised and ran all the team building activities throughout the weekend. Awesome job!! We had a blast.

A huge Thank You also must go to Miss Gwynne and Miss Parmenter for giving up their entire weekend to assist Miss Smith and Mrs Slape run the camp.

Finally, a heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing volunteer Camp Parents Robyn Marshall, Doug Bignell and Richard Ninness who kept us all fed, helped out with the activities and were just plain fabulous.
