Damien Kee – STEM Enrichment Activity
Because of our strong connection with QMEA (Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy), we were lucky enough to host Damien Kee (Technology in Education) to work with a group of Year 7 students last week. Damien conducted an Arduino Workshop, allowing students to work with hardware and software. The students involved had a great time and learned lots!
Damien’s visit also gave staff members some great ideas and we had the chance to discuss some STEM opportunities leading into 2019.

Thanks to QMEA, Damien Kee and those who participated.

Year 6 Students Transitioning
This week, we hosted our Year 6 into 7 Orientation Days. The students had 2 action-packed days at Toolooa, getting to know the place, and participating in a range of learning experiences. Lots of preparation goes into organising this event, so big thanks to Craig O’Connor (Year 7 Co-ordinator) and Ashton Shonhan (Junior Secondary HoD) for all the hard work in the lead-up to Orientation.

Bring Your Own Device 2019
We are actively encouraging families of students in Year 7 in 2019 to bring a device if they are in a position to do so. Specifically, our device of preference is an Apple iPad. With this being said, students are still able to bring laptops that meet the minimum specifications. From 2020 onwards, Year 7 students will be required to bring iPads to school. This will not have a direct impact on students in older cohorts in 2020.
