Welcome to 2019 at TSHS!
The first few weeks of the school year are always exciting! The 2019 school year has started-off very smoothly so far and it’s been great to welcome a whole new cohort of Year 7s students, along with our returning cohorts. We are all looking forward to yet another rewarding year, filled with successes in a range of domains.

The start of the year is always a great time to set-up positive routines and habits for the year. Here’s a few tips to get your child ready for success in 2019:

  • Student Success Journal – All students have received a Student Success Journal (AKA school diary) on their first day of the school year. It is an expectation that they bring their diary to school every day and have it on their desk during every lesson. Students are to write in assessment dates, homework/revision tasks, as well as reminders about important events. Parents should be able to see their child’s success journal being used on a daily basis.  If your child is not using their diary appropriately, remind them about it and feel free to speak with their form teacher or Year Level Co-ordinator.

  • Assessment Dates – Students should be starting to write assessment dates into their diaries from the first few weeks. Please speak with your child about upcoming assessment and how they can best prepare for the demands of the tasks. It might also be helpful to list due dates on the fridge at home so that parents can remind their children about upcoming assessment.

  • Uniforms – It is an expectation that students wear the Toolooa SHS shirt and shorts every school day. If, for some reason, your child is unable to wear the appropriate uniform, they are to bring an explanatory note if they wish to avoid a uniform detention.

  • Rewards Cards – In 2017, we started a new whole-school rewards system where students receive a blank rewards card. Throughout the term, students may receive stamps on their card for positive behaviours. When the student fills their card with 10 stamps, they are able to submit the card to their year level co-ordinator and go into the draw to win minor and major prizes. Students must remember to display the card on their desk to receive stamps for great behaviour.

We wish all our students a fantastic start to the year. If you have any questions or concerns at any stage, please feel free to contact the school.

BYOD
2019 is also a very exciting year for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) at Toolooa. We are expecting record numbers of students coming to our school with their own device this year. In 2019, the device is still optional. We do wish to make parents aware that we will be transitioning into an “Apple iPad School” from 2020 with our Year 7 cohort.

Families of students bringing a device this year should be aware that they need to return the BYOD charter and pay the BYOD connection fee before sending their child to school with the device. Once this is completed, students can book-in with our IT Technician to get set-up.

If you’re interested in BYOD and would like some further information, please feel free to pop into the office, or give the office staff a call and request an info pack.
