Botanic to Bridge
It was very exciting to see such a large turn-out of Toolooa SHS students in their lovely blue shirts, running the 3km and 8km Botanic to Bridge Fun Run this year. Not only is the Botanic to Bridge a great way to keep fit, it is also a fantastic community event, and it raises much-needed funds for schools and local organisations.
I’d like to thank Anne-Marie Stewart – Community Relations Adviser at Gladstone Port Corporation – for her efforts in promoting this event with our students. Additionally, thanks must go to our very own Greg Hage – HoD Maths – for his tireless work in encouraging TSHS students and staff to participate.
Winners of prizes from this year’s Botanic to Bridge were presented at this week’s full-school parade. Congratulations to all participants and we are looking forward to seeing record numbers out in full force again next year.
2019 Enrolments
A few reminders to families wanting to enrol their child at Toolooa in 2019:
  • Please check your address in the catchment zone map at (note that catchment zones don’t apply if your child already has a sibling enrolled with us).
  • Student Orientation Days are coming-up next term (3rd & 4th December).  Students are to wear their primary school uniform, bring lunch or tuckshop money, and pack their bag with a hat, water bottle, notepad and pencil case.
  • If you’re enrolling your child from a non-QLD State School (ie. private or interstate school), or your child has additional learning needs, please call the office and book in an enrolment interview.
  • Our uniform shop is open every Tuesday until 12pm.  Additional times will be advertised over the Christmas holidays.
  • Please submit your enrolment package before the end of the school year.
  • Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) information is included in the enrolment package.  For more information, contact Meghan Gwynne on 49 714 338.
  • If you have any questions, please contact the school and speak with our Year 7 Co-ordinator, Craig O’Connor (49 714 335), or our Junior Secondary Head of Department, Ashton Shonhan (49 714 347).
NAPLAN Results
You may have heard in the media that there has been a delay in the release of NAPLAN results to schools and parents this year.  This has come as a result of differences between the traditional pen and paper NAPLAN and the new NAPLAN online, which a number of non-QLD State Schools participated in.  We have not yet been provided with a date that we’ll receive parent reports; however, rest assured that we will be sending them home as quickly as possible after they arrive at the school.
By now, most parents would be aware that our school subscribes to the online reporting system, STYMIE. With this subscription, students and members of the community are able to anonymously report bullying, harassment, or suspected harm. These STYMIE reports are received by the relevant Year Level Co-ordinator and Deputy Principal, as well as the support team. STYMIE is the most easy and efficient method of reporting concerns to the school. Please encourage your child/ren to engage with STYMIE if they have concerns about any kind of harassment, bullying and/or suspected harm.
