First Place in Mathematics Competition!

During week four, Gladstone State High School hosted the annual QAMT Regional Mathematics Competition for students in years 7 and 8.

This year, each school was able to invite one team from year seven and one team from year eight to compete against schools from all around our region. Selection of these teams was very difficult as Toolooa has so many fine mathematicians in the junior secondary years!

After gruelling rounds in estimation, problem solving and speed, Toolooa SHS found themselves in a tie-breaker situation with our old rivals, Gladstone State High School!

Thankfully, the year eight team was able to think quickly and solve the tie-breaker challenge to walk away as the overall champions of the day.

As a result of their win, the team has been invited to attend the next level of competition in Bundaberg this week. They will compete against the other winning teams from Bundaberg, Wide Bay and Rockhampton areas to determine an overall winner to send to the State Finals.

A big thanks to Toolooa’s mathematics Head of Department, Mr Hage, who worked hard with the teams in preparation for the competition. We are looking forward to seeing the results of the upcoming finals.
