Great Start to 2017

In last fortnight’s newsletter, I wrote an article regarding FCAs (Focus Correction Areas) and the positive impact they can have on a child’s writing. This morning, Mrs Willard and I walked through several classrooms and it was wonderful to see students in a range of subjects using their individual FCAs to influence their writing. If you haven’t had a chance to do so, I urge you to have a look in the back of your child’s diary (Student Success Journal) to see their personalised FCAs. These are excellent tools for students to continuously improve their writing skills and work towards achieving goals.

Not only are students working on improving reading and writing in the junior secondary years, but there is also a heavy focus on numeracy. Currently, our year 8 students are spending an additional 70 minutes per week honing in on their numeracy and problem solving skills. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a mathematician, have a go at the following number challenge that was set for the year 8 extension maths class this term.

Overall, it’s been a great start to 2017. Please remember to keep track of your child’s upcoming assessment dates by looking ahead in their diaries. Assessment calendars will also be coming home in the next week so that you can stick it on the fridge for easy access at home.
