Toolooa Students Represent Gladstone District at Maths Competition
On Wednesday the 30th  of August, I had the pleasure of taking three of our finest year 8 mathematicians to represent the Gladstone district at the Wide Bay QAMT Regional Finals. This was an exciting opportunity for our school to compete against the top teams from as far south as Maryborough for a place in the State Finals next term.
Although our team missed out on first place this year, they competed tremendously and we are so proud of their efforts. Notably, our students’ performance in the ‘General Mathematics Knowledge’ section was outstanding, with their knowledge blowing the other teams out of the water! They were able to answer a question regarding an abacus, another identifying the year of Albert Einstein’s death and complete the famous quote, ‘Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration’. Additionally, they performed exceptionally well in the ‘Individual Short Answer’ round, where all three students correctly answered their questions within the allotted time.
We are incredibly proud of these students as they upheld our school’s core values of respect, achievement and responsibility throughout the day, as well as in the lead-up to the tournament.
Congratulations to all three students!
2018 Year 7 Scholarships
We are very excited to announce that the Toolooa SHS P&C Committee is kindly sponsoring up to six scholarships for outstanding students enrolling in Year 7 in 2018.
If your child is starting Year 7 at Toolooa SHS in 2018 and they would like to apply for a scholarship, please see the ladies at the school office for a scholarship package from the first day of next term. Scholarships can be awarded for exceptional performance in academia, sports, arts, or instrumental music. The selection process begins with students completing a written application package, along with submitting evidence of achievements (eg. report cards, certificates, etc.) and references. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of staff members at Toolooa SHS and successful applicants will receive a certificate at their primary school later in the year.
For more information, please pick-up a package from the school office (from Tuesday 3rd October), or contact Junior Secondary Head of Department, Jess Batey, via or on 49 714 351.
