NAPLAN
Recently, parents of students in years 7 and 9 should have received a letter in regard to NAPLAN. The 2019 NAPLAN tests will be completed in week 4 of Term Two. It is an expectation that all eligible year 7 and 9 students sit NAPLAN; however, parents are encouraged to contact the school if they have any concerns or questions regarding the tests. While students aren’t able to study for NAPLAN, they are being prepared at school through the constant teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Please reassure your child that these tests are simply used to see how far they’ve progressed and assess their skills on a nation-wide basis.

STEM Squad
STEM Squad has begun. In week four, 19 students, along with Mrs Shonhan and Mr Aburn familiarised themselves with the plan for Term 1 and experimented with EV3 LEGO robots and the new interactive BIG screen!

What a success!

In week five, 26 students, along with Mrs Shonhan, Mr Aburn and Mr Hughes worked on their robotics skills while having fun with EV3 LEGO robots.

Clean Up Australia Day 2019
Last Friday, our Junior Leaders participated in Clean up Australia Day. It was their first initiative for 2019 and a successful one at that! Thank you to the junior leadership team and the many students that volunteered to assist with the event. Our school grounds look fantastic!

World Science Festival at GECC
Last Friday, Mrs Shonhan and 18 of our STEM Squad members made their way to the GECC for the World Science Festival. They listened to engaging presentations from Dr Ash, Dr Marwa Al-Ansary and Dr Brad Tucker before exploring the stalls along Science Street.

They had a blast!

STEM Horizons-Successful Applicant
Year 7 student, Tobi Arandale has been selected to attend STEM Horizons, a program that includes 4 days of specialist activities across Griffith University, Princess Alexandra Hospital and Moreton Bay. Tobi will attend the program at different dates during September and October. A position in this program is highly sought after and Tobi is the only student from her group that resides outside of Brisbane.

Well Done, Tobi!
