2019 NAPLAN Dates
Parents of students in years 7 and 9 should have now received a letter in regard to NAPLAN. The 2019 NAPLAN tests will be completed in week 4 of Term Two. It is an expectation that all eligible year 7 and 9 students sit NAPLAN; however, parents are encouraged to contact the school if they have any concerns or questions regarding the tests. While students aren’t able to study for NAPLAN, they are being prepared at school through the constant teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Please reassure your child that these tests are simply used to see how far they’ve progressed and assess their skills on a nation-wide basis.

STEM Squad
Another week and another instalment of STEM Squad. Last week we were joined by Russell Stewart, an electrical engineer from QAL. Russell taught our STEM Squad participants a thing or two when it comes to coding the EV3LEGO robots (even Mrs Shonhan is starting to get the hang of this coding business). We look forward to Russell joining us again soon.

STEM Squad Logo
Some of our STEM Squad participants have been busy developing a logo for our squad. We have narrowed it down to two very talented finalists and have decided to feature Maddyson La Cioppa's creation as our logo for semester one. Thank you, Maddyson for your fantastic design. Keep an eye out for our second finalist in semester two.

Junior Secondary Leadership Focus Groups for 2019
This year, our Junior Secondary Leadership team is made-up of 48 junior leaders. With such a large number of capable and passionate students, we knew we had to provide a structure that allowed every single leader to shine in their own way. Therefore, we have enlisted the help of some dedicated teachers to oversee a smaller group of leaders, focussing on an area of need that will benefit both our school and wider community. Our 2019 focus areas are:
Wellbeing with Hicksy, Books4Bubs with Mrs McDonald and Mrs Townsend, Social Club with Miss Day, School Beautification with Mrs Roo, Fundraising with Mrs Shonhan and Environmental Improvement with Miss Halloran. Our junior leaders have chosen their focus area and will be putting together their yearly plans over the next week or two. Watch this space!
International Women’s Day 2019
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women - while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender balance.
The first International Women's Day occurred in 1911, supported by over one million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.
This year, IWD was held on Friday, March 8th and to raise awareness, our Junior Leadership team held the #BalanceforBetter pose while pledging to play their part towards a more equal future. Junior Leaders then used these images to create a presentation for our whole school parade.

Well done, Junior Leaders!
