2019 STEM Girl Power Camp Update
The study and practice of science, technology, engineering and mathematics is collectively known as STEM. The STEM Girl Power Camp is an initiative of Advancing education: An action plan for education in Queensland.
Earlier this term, we reported that year 9 student, Khushi Patel had been selected to submit an application for the 2019 STEM Girls Power Camp. Toolooa State High School could submit only ONE application to the judging panel in Brisbane. Since then, we have been eagerly awaiting the panel’s decision. This week, we received the exciting news that Khushi’s application has been successful!
The camp will be held in Brisbane from the 19th – 23rd of March, 2019. It is part of the year-long STEM Girl Power Initiative which includes a Term 2 regional event, Term 3 activities for National Science Week and a Term 4 alumni event.
The STEM Girl Power Initiative aims to provide students with experiences in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage students to participate in STEM at school and consider it as a future career option.
During the camp, Khushi will join other Year 10 girls from around Queensland to experience the World Science Festival, meet STEM role models, undertake STEM activities and visit STEM researchers.
Congratulations Khushi! We hope you find the camp rewarding and we look forward to hearing all about it.
