Indigenous Programs

28/02/2013
What a start to what is shaping up as a great year for indigenous education. We started the year with our Year 9’s and 10’s travelling to Brisbane for a University experience – experiencing the life of a university student and participating in a number of adventure activities.
Students returned from the camp with a renewed perspective and now a number of our students are considering university as an option when they complete Year 12.
Also coming up is our ARTIE (Achieving Results Through Indigenous Education) launch with Steve Walters and Petro Civoniceva. This program will mentor our Indigenous students, helping them to strive for improved attendance, increased effort in class and better results. The launch for our Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students will be happening Monday 11 March from 5.30pm – 7.30 pm at CQU.
Additionally, our Year 10’s will be working very closely with Former Origin Great Steve Price.
The program, known as “Pricey pathways”, will be running at Toolooa once a month. The aim of this program is to encourage our Year 10’s to achieve enhanced academic outcomes and transition them to senior schooling.
Finally, we welcome a new member to our Indigenous support team - Cassie Benjamin. Cassie brings a wealth of experience to our department and will be working closely with our senior students.
Any questions regarding our indigenous programs, please contact Bill Moloney or Cassie Benjamin on 49714314.
