Lions Youth Of The Year - Jasmine Elliott

Lions Youth Of The Year -Jasmine Elliott
Last week I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to represent Toolooa State High School at the Club Final of Lions Youth of the Year (YOTY) hosted by Lions Club of Boyne Island. This was my first experience with the competition, which is comprised of a written application, interview, impromptu and prepared speeches. Lions YOTY aims at engaging youth, to encourage, foster and develop leadership, and allows young people to find their voice.
And, led by Chair Ann Maree Rashleigh, the Boyne Island Lion’s Club and an amazing judging panel, I felt that all these goals were achieved. I engaged in conversation about my involvement in the community and current affairs, learnt from other young people, and expressed my perspective on the impromptu topics, along with a concept I’m extremely passionate about- change. And, despite initial nerves, I was challenged, inspired, and thoroughly enjoyed my time both during the interview and speeches. I knew that no matter the result, participating was a worthwhile opportunity to further my skills. Nonetheless, I was honoured to be announced as the overall winner of the club final and will be able to further engage in this program on the 18th of March in Biloela for the regional final.
