Maroons Fan Day

Maroons Fan Day
On Tuesday 14th June the Rugby League Queensland Maroons visited Gladstone as part of their annual fan day visits. This day consisted of a street parade up Goondoon Street in the morning followed by a coaching clinic at Marley Browne Oval in the afternoon. Mr Muir and I were lucky enough to take a group of 17 students who had played rugby league for the school in Mr Muir’s premiership winning 13 years team.
All of these students had a fantastic day and were given the opportunity to get up and close with some of the game’s best players. During the street parade the students battled against the crowds to get a valued signature off their favourite players including origin stars such as Greg Inglis, Cooper Cronk, Darius Boyd, Corey Oates, Corey Parker and Billy Slater just to name a few. It was at the coaching clinic however, where they had the most one on one time with their heroes.
The coaching clinic involved over 400 12 year olds from around the region. It consisted of short 10 minute drills where the aim was to have fun and get active while learning some rugby league ball handling skills. The best thing about these drills was that the origin players were involved and interacting with the students throughout these drills which the kids thought was absolutely awesome. We were lucky enough to have Kody House (Australian female representative) and Josh McGuire help out with our drills.
Overall, the Maroon’s fan day visit was a great success and our students had a fantastic time meeting and interacting with their rugby league heroes. Now, all of the students have an extra reason to cheer on the Maroons during game 2 of the origin series next week. Up the Maroons!
