News From The Indigenous Team
There has been some really amazing things happening around the school and the wider community for our Indigenous students. On Thursday 28th April, students from years 9, 10 and 11 headed over to CQ University along with others from Gladstone State High School, Mt Larcom State High School and Chanel College to attend the first AIME program of the year. The day was focused on getting to know each other, learning about the student’s identity and connecting with the AIME mentors who visit from all over Australia. The students were taught how to be thankful and wrote thank-you letters and cards to their teachers, parents, friends and anyone who they were grateful for. The students also learnt how to be respectful to each other and treat each other with kindness. It was a great day surrounded by friends, support and respect.
Late last term we also held a recognition celebration for all Indigenous students who had an attendance record of over 90%. The students were treated to an afternoon of fun with pizzas, an Easter egg hunt and our Deadly Awards. These awards are nominated by the student’s teachers in order to recognise those who have been outstanding in the classroom in regards to behaviour and effort.
