Instrumental Music Notes

SHEP Capricornia: Congratulations to six outstanding Toolooa Instrumental Music students (Nathan Jacob, Caitlin Bignell, Nethmini Alahakoon, Jasmine Elliott, Lily Furness and Merin Ward) who represented Toolooa SHS at SHEP Capricornia in Rockhampton from 10-12 March. The State Honours Ensemble Program gives selected advanced students an opportunity to experience music making at a new level. International guest conductor Mr Owen Clarke worked with the 80 most outstanding students from 23 different high schools in the SHEP Capricornia Wind Ensemble. Students were selected from as far north as Townsville, west to Longreach and south to the Fraser Coast.

QSO Workshops:

The Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) is again running a series of workshops in Gladstone for our Instrumental Music students. The first Toolooa workshop will be held at our school, for our students, working on two pieces of music each group is preparing for the combined schools’ public performance with the QSO in May. World renowned Band conductor and clinician Prof. Rob McWilliams will work with our Concert Band, and Symphonic Band; and internationally acclaimed String guru Mark Sullivan will work with our String Orchestra. All Instrumental Music students will be involved in the workshops both in April and in May. Thanks to the generous support of Australia Pacific LNG there is no cost involved to our students. There will be a final culminating performance where our students get to play with the musicians from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at the GECC on Wednesday 31 May.he Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) is again running a series of workshops in Gladstone for our Instrumental Music students.
