Our Japanese Visitors

Our Japanese Visitors
On Tuesday 12th August, Toolooa will play host to a number of student and teachers from Jonan Junior High School. Jonan Junior High is located in our sister city, Saiki, and is on the island of Kyushu in Japan.
We have enjoyed a sister city exchange program with this school for a number of years and we alternate our visits with a deputation from Gladstone visiting Saiki every second year. Saiki is similar to Gladstone in that it is a Port town and has roughly the same population as we do.
Students from two Junior High schools will join us in August, with students from Tsuruya Junior High being hosted by Tannum Sands SHS. Our Japanese friends will enjoy some specially planned activities here at school as well as venturing to Rockhampton for a tour of the Capricorn Caves. They will also have a weekend with their host families, during which they will no doubt enjoy some Gladstone hospitality, before leaving us on Monday 18th August.
Hosting a student is an excellent opportunity to learn more about a new culture and develop friendships which endure despite the distance between our two countries. If your family is interested in this opportunity and is yet to collect information from our Japanese teachers, please encourage your child to see Mrs Zagami or Ms Assman in the Communications block.
