Principal's Piece - Alan Whitfield

Principal’s Piece.—Alan Whitfield.
A warm welcome to each of our new and continuing students as we begin their 2014 academic year.
This year we will continue to implement a performance culture across our school that has high expectations of each individual, students and staff, as we continue our determination to ensure that every student can be ‘the best that they can be’.
Congratulations to Joshua Reilly, Toolooa State High School’s 2013 Dux. The fast facts on Joshua’s 2013 academic achievements:

Student Leaders
Our 2014 Student Leaders – Bradley Fuller, Jordana Wale, Emma Kyle, and Nick Bennett.
Year 12 Exit Results
Students awarded a Queensland Certificate of Education and /or Certificate 2 = 100%
OP 1 – 5 = 21.4%
OP 1 – 10 = 69%
OP 1- 15 = 90.4%
These exit results demonstrate a very strong performance and recognise the outstanding efforts of students, quality support from parents and expert teaching by the school team.
Road Safety
A firm reminder to everyone that our school is located on the intersection of two very busy arterial roads. It is imperative that students and visitors exercise considerable common sense when crossing roads while arriving and departing from school. The speed limit within the school grounds is <20kph and there are busy times before and after school when it is more appropriate to stop, drop and go at the front gate rather than drive your child all the way into the grounds.
Senior Study Day
Monday, February 24 will be the first senior study day for 2014. Students in Years 10, 11 & 12 will not attend regular school classes and will have an opportunity to work on assessment and teacher set work at home.
Junior school students, Years 7, 8 & 9 will attend regular classes at school on February 24.
Personal Presentation
The expectation of our team and our community is that our students will be well presented and wear their school uniform each day to school. One of the concerns continually voiced is the shorts/skirts worn by some of our girls (way too short). Where this is a problem in 2014, parents can expect a phone call asking to bring a replacement pair of shorts to school. Please be prepared if this is a continual issue with your daughter.
