Principal’s Piece—Garry Goltz

Christmas Message
We wish our students, parents, staff and community a safe and relaxing holiday to end a very busy year.

In 2017 we will return again to a split start-up with years 7, 8 and 11 starting on Monday, January 23 and the whole school in attendance on Tuesday January 24.

What a year 2016 has been!

Academic Success – our students have achieved some of the best results across the region for Literacy and Numeracy through NAPLAN, OCS results, QCE attainment (100% of year 12 students), strong results through subject A-E achievement with almost 90% being an A, B or C; and we continue to lead the way with indigenous student achievement with 100% of year 12 indigenous students achieving their QCE – making it four years in a row!

Instrumental music – incredible success at Fanfare and Eisteddfod; demonstrated their immense talent at every playout

Arts Showcase – a simply fantastic event highlighting the immense talent of our students

Service – our Interact Club led the way with service to community groups and aid organisations; ably supported by our Junior and Senior Student Leadership teams

Sporting Success – 4 Queensland representatives, numerous Capricornia and Port Curtis reps; Elliott wins the House competition for the first time in many years…and will be go back to back in 2017!

These outstanding results and achievements do not happen without the incredible work of our staff and the ongoing support of our parents! Toolooa State High School is part of an incredibly impressive community!

Year 7’s for 2017
What an impressive group of students! The opportunity for our incoming year 7students to experience two days at Toolooa SHS has been a tremendous success. Getting to know the layout of the school, who some of the teachers are, an understanding of how our days run, as well getting to sample the food from our fantastic tuckshop has been very value. Each year we lose an enormous amount of talent and tradition when our year 12’s transition into life after school and we rely on our incoming students to ‘replenish the stocks’ and bring their own strength to our school. We are very excited about this group coming in. Our Junior Secondary Deputy Danielle Willard, along with our year 7 coordinator, Mr Craig O’Connor have done a great job supporting this transition process at Toolooa High.

Reporting
Many of our report cards have already been sent out with the last couple of year levels being posted this week. We would encourage our parents to contact the school in the new year if these reports do not make it home.

Leaving staff
The quality of a school cannot exceed the quality of its teachers. This is a simple and obvious statement which has significant meaning at this time of a year. The student outcomes achieved at Toolooa SHS this year are reflective of the quality of our teachers, some of which are moving on. We would like to thank them for their dedication and commitment to improving the outcomes of students in their classes. Mr Greg Hale has been important members of our staff and we wish him well for his next step in education. We will be without Miss Hayley Green, Miss Kerryn McCauley, Miss Georgia Milne in 2017 also, and we hope that they enjoy their leave.

Additionally we would like to acknowledge the retirement of two of our long serving staff members; Mr Peter Hammett who was instrumental in our Manual Arts department before moving out to the EQIP Engineering Skills Centre many years ago and Mrs Anne Moffit who has been a teacher aide at Toolooa State High for many years.

We also acknowledge the work of our Chaplain Claire Breed (on maternity leave) and our Youth Support Coordinator (heading home to New Zealand) at Toolooa High. We also thank Mrs Anna Noovao and Peta Ross and Mrs Karolee Wade for their work at our school and wish them well.e also acknowledge the work of our Chaplain Claire Breed (on maternity leave) and our Youth Support Coordinator (heading home to New Zealand) at Toolooa High.
