Swimming Carnival
Today is Toolooa’s annual swimming carnival. It is an opportunity for our students to display their physical talents in the swimming pool and for those who aren’t as competitive, a day whereby they participate in as many events as possible and enjoy the company of their friends in a different setting. I would like to wish all competitors the best of luck in their event/s and may the best careport win on the day. To the HPE team who helped organise the carnival, thank you.

Lions Youth of the Year
This Saturday, four of our Senior Leaders will compete at Tannum Sands State High School in the annual Lions Youth of the Year competition. This program provides students with the incentive to pay greater attention to the qualities that are so vital in developing our youth into first-class citizens. The qualities sought after, apart from academic attainments, are those of leadership, personality, sportsmanship, public speaking and good citizenship. Toolooa has an excellent record regarding performance in this competition and we have had a number of students compete through to district and state level. We wish the following students the very best of luck as they compete on Saturday and we thank the Lions Clubs of Gladstone and Tannum for providing such a wonderful opportunity for our young people:

      • Merin Ward
      • Nicolas Versic
      • Salvatore Zuniga
      • Henry Kean

Senior Curriculum Study Day
There will be no Senior Curriculum Study Day for Year 11 and 12 students this year. All students are required to attend school on Monday 19 February.

Extracurricular Activities Policy
Toolooa’s Extracurricular Activities Policy continues this year. A copy of this policy is on page 38 of the Student Success Journal. At Toolooa, we recognise the importance of extracurricular activities in enhancing students’ learning by providing opportunities to participate in experiences outside the normal school routine. We are committed to catering for the needs of each individual student and acknowledge the role that these types of activities may place in enhancing student learning. However, before any student can represent the school, each individual will be evaluated in relation to their behaviour, attitude, work ethic, dress, manners and percentage attendance. If students do not meet the appropriate criteria, they could forfeit their right to attend.

Year 7 Parent Meet and Greet
Toolooa’s Year 7 Meet and Greet Evening is coming up on the 22nd of February. Families of Year 7 students are invited to attend the school for a free BBQ and a casual chat with teachers. This is a great opportunity to touch base with your child’s teacher/s and thus develop that supportive connection with them. Information will be sent home shortly. Please remember to RSVP for catering purposes.

Assessment Calendars
Assessment calendars will be handed out in the immediate future. We encourage all parents to go through them with their child/ren to ensure they have a full understanding of the demands of each term and are well organised. If you have any concerns or need further information regarding the assessment listed, please contact the school.

Traffic Congestion
To help reduce the traffic congestion down the front of the school in the afternoons, I am asking all drivers not to sit in the que waiting for a space which blocks the entrance to the stop drop and go. Not only is this stopping our buses for entering the bus lane and transporting students home on time, it is dangerously backing up the traffic onto Philip Street and the roundabout on Benaraby Road. I urge all parents/family members to adhere to the road safety rules, especially around schools.

Uniform
At this present stage, it is very pleasing to see the majority of our students wearing the correct uniform. For those who are not, can I ask all parents/carers to emphasise and remind your child/ren of the importance of attending school in the correct uniform. Please refer to page 11 of the Student Success Journal for further information regarding the uniform policy that is endorsed by our P&C Association.
