2020 Timetable Change Information Evening
I would like to thank all parents, carers and students who attended the information evening last night. It was great to see such a large turnout, all taking time out of their busy schedule to gather the necessary information and seek clarification moving forward. For those parents and carers who could not attend, further information regarding the change will be sent home with students next week.
QCS Update
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, a number of our Year 12 students sat the Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Test. I would like to congratulate each and every one of them and commend every student for the hard work and commitment they showed over the two days. We all look forward to receiving the anticipated positive results at the end of the year. To prepare our students for the two days, I’d like to thank the following staff, Tony Muller, Chappy Geoff, Sophie Nagtashima & Darren Boase who organised a healthy and nutritious breakfast for the students on both days.
Updated Assessment Policy
With the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority making a number of changes regarding assessment requirements, Toolooa SHS has updated its assessment policy. The policy is available for perusal on our school website: It will also be published in the 2020 Student Success Journal. If you have questions in relation to the school’s policy, please contact the school.
Term 3 Assessment
With assessment upon everyone, it is critical that all students are fully aware of their assessment requirements and seek clarification if needed. I encourage all parents to check with their child to make sure they are on track, support them in any way, visually check their piece and take a vested interest in their work. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
Support For Year 11 and 12 Students to Begin Their Teaching Degree
The Future Teachers Bursary supports senior secondary students to fast-track their teaching career. The bursary provides financial assistance for tertiary units and related study costs. Applications are now open so share this with a future teacher you know.
Keeping Everyone Healthy At School
Coughs, colds and other illnesses can spread easily at school. Please remind your children to wash their hands regularly and cover coughs and sneezes. If your child is ill, please keep them at home and notify the school as soon as possible. You should seek medical advice if you are concerned about your child’s health. Let’s work together to keep everyone healthy so children can recover as quickly as possible and come back to school ready to learn.
Thank You to Our School Support Staff
School Support Staff Recognition Week was 26-29 of August 2019!
Our school support staff are an essential part of our school community and play a vital role in the operation of this great school. Without them, many students would not reach their full potential and the school would not be one that is safe, engaging and an overall positive learning environment.
Everyone in the school is supported by these staff and I would like to recognise them for their continued efforts and let them know they are immensely appreciated.
Teacher Aide Day is Friday the 6th of September
Happy Teacher Aide Day to all of our wonderful Toolooa State High School teacher aides! Their dedication, professionalism and support is greatly appreciated by our students, staff and parents alike. Please take the time to show your appreciation for them.
Attendance Monitoring
School attendance and the monitoring of absences has two main purposes:
All absences MUST be explained by parents. This communication ensures parents and school are aware of the explanation for the absence thus ensuring legal obligations and ‘duty of care’ requirements are fulfilled by both parties. It is also expected that this communication occurs within three days.
Actual percentage attendance is important for learning of all students in every year level. High attendance enables students to form the foundation knowledge and skills required to have success at school. Research has shown learning is consolidated and refined through ongoing repetition to make the knowledge or skill automatic and so it becomes routine and easy.
Consequently, to get the best results for our students, every day is a learning day at Toolooa. Your support in reinforcing the importance of attendance is greatly appreciated.
