Upcoming Assessment
With assessment fast approaching, this is the time of term that our students need to be talking to their teachers about areas that they need to address to improve their results. In some situations it may be a specific criteria that needs to improve, in others it may be a particular area of the subject. We encourage our parents to ask their child what they need to improve and whether they are on track. If they say “nothing” or conversely “everything”, please direct them to their teacher as neither will be the advice our teachers are providing. In addition, I encourage all parents to have a look at their child’s assessment calendar and ask whether they are on track and more importantly, ask to look at their assignment and where they are up to.

Equipment Expectations
Does your child have the equipment required every day at school?

  • An individual book for each subject – with their name and subject on the front
  • A ruler
  • Red, blue and black pen
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Calculator

Year 12 QCS
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, a number of our Year 12 students have sat the Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Test. I would like to commend every student for the hard work and commitment that they have applied over their journey at Toolooa. In addition, I would also like to thank all staff who have positively influenced this cohort and set them up for success in this exam. I am looking forward to receiving the results later in the year - results that will closely reflect the desire the students and staff have at Toolooa.

Toolooa Shelter Upgradeoolooa Shelter Upgrade
Toolooa SHS has been fortunate enough to receive a substantial amount of funding that will go towards a shelter upgrade. Due to the significance of the upgrade, the shelter and its close proximities will be out of bounds for the entirety of Term 4. Obviously, due to its closure, there will be some logistical issues that the school will face, however, we are currently working through them. The scope of works planned is to be finished by the start of school, 2018. This is a very exciting time for Toolooa and as you will all agree, the shelter is desperately in need of an upgrade.

Road Safety
I would like all parents/carers to take a couple of minutes to sit down with their child a remind them of being road safety. It is never too late to reinforce with your child about the road rules: wearing a helmet, driving to the conditions, crossing the road at the lights, being responsible when travelling to school and respectful to other members of the public who use our roads. Unfortunately, I have received a number of phone calls from members of the public recently informing me of ‘near misses’ with our students and students not acting responsibly on the roads. Please spend five minutes with your child reminding them of the importance of being road safe.

Vietnam Veterans Day
Trevor Davis, Toolooa State High School’s member of staff who is a war veteran, along with our school captains attended the Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day service which was held on Friday the 18th of August 2017.  Lest we Forget

Teacher Aide Day
This Friday is Teacher Aide day when we celebrate the support provided to students and teachers by our teacher aides. This celebration day enables the school community to recognise the skills, abilities and flexibility that teacher aides contribute to the daily life of the school. Our school will celebrate the achievements of our 27 teacher aides with a special morning tea.
