Rural Fire Brigade - School Base Program

Rural Fire Brigade—School Based Program
As you may be aware, a group of 20 young men and women in our school have raised their hands to serve the community as Volunteer Rural Firefighters. These students have taken part in the Rural Fire Brigade’s school based program (SBP) for the past 8 months, which has provided them with the theoretical and practical skills required to be effective members of the local brigades. On Wednesday 24th August our young firefighters completed their final major practical assessment, placing them in a position to become fully fledged Rural Firefighters and receive their Certificate II in Public Safety.  Our students performed exceptionally throughout the extended 3.5 hour assessment session.
As we approach the end of the SBP it is pleasing to see our students displaying, not only the skills they have learned throughout this course, but emerging leadership qualities appropriate for emergency service personnel.  Encouragingly, these students have shown their commitment to the brigade over the last few months by moving beyond the SBP by attending brigade meetings and training session at Mt Maurice and Calliope Rural Fire Brigades.  Discussions with brigade members indicate that our students are already contributing positively to these brigades and are set to become valuable resources as we move into this year’s fire season. Congratulations to everyone involved.
