2017-2018 UQ Young Scholars Program

Congratulations to the following students who were successful in gaining entry into the program:
Amritesh Savnak

Connie Li

Merin Ward

Nicholas Versic.

Designed to nurture and develop our future leaders, the Young Scholars Program presents students with an exciting opportunity for academic extension and enrichment and is centred around igniting young change-makers’ passions for leadership, academic achievement and community development in today’s global society.

The 2017-2018 UQ Young Scholars Program involves:
•A five-day (four night) Residential Camp at the St Lucia campus
•A YSP Open Day Reunion (Early August 2018)
•Facebook Group Networking & Support
•Regular Newsletters
Students will gain valuable insights into university life and fields of study they may not have encountered as part of the school curriculum. They will hear from leading thinkers and engage in discussions and collaborative forums in group settings. A range of social, sporting and cultural activities will complement the academic program. While on campus, students are housed in single rooms in one of UQ’s residential colleges. The Program is administered and supervised by University staff and Student Mentors.

Our Helpful Year 12s

A number of Year 12s who had finished all of their assessment for the term spent two lessons working with Mrs Small's Year 7 Science students in Week 9.

The Year 7s loved having the seniors in the classroom to support them, and Mrs Small said the Year 12s were very helpful. Thank you to these Year 12s!

Year 12 QCS Test
Well done to all of our Year 12 students who sat the QCS Test on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th August. We are very proud of your efforts!

Thank you to all staff who were involved in the students' preparation for the test, as well as the running of the day and the QCS Breakfast. Thank you also to the P & C Association who provided the breakfast for our students.

Work Experience
Applications for the September school holidays have now closed; however students in Years 10 and 11 may still complete work experience in the December school holidays. Application forms can be collected from the Senior Room, and the $40 fee is payable to the office. Work experience is an incredibly valuable experience, and we encourage all of our students to complete work experience during their senior schooling.

Year 11 Practice QCS Test
All Year 11 QCS students received an information letter outlining the QCS Workshop day and Practice Test days in Week 2 next term. Please ensure your child has given you this letter. It is very important that all students who intend to sit the QCS Test in Year 12 participate in the workshop day and practice tests in Term 4. Their practice tests will be professionally marked and feedback provided to the students. If you did not receive a letter, please contact Natalie Jounquay on 49 714 357.

Year 10 SET Plan/Senior Induction Meetings
All Year 10 parents/caregivers will be invited to a meeting with their child and a senior schooling case manager to discuss their child's Year 11 subject selections and intended career pathway. Please look out for the letter in the mail, which will give further details. These meetings will begin early next term.

Year 10 PREQIP

Congratulations to our Year 10 students who successfully graduated from the EQIP program PREQIP at a lovely graduation ceremony on Thursday 7th September. PREQIP provides a platform for Year 10 indigenous students to develop valuable employability skills in authentic work environments and raise awareness of the potential career pathways in the region. Well done to all of the graduates!
