Senior Schooling News
With Natalie Jounquay

It is great to be back at Toolooa SHS this year from maternity leave in 2018, and I look forward to working with our seniors this year.

Thank you to Darren Boase for doing a fantastic job as Acting Head of Senior Schooling last year.

I am part-time in 2019, and am available Monday to Thursdays. Darren Boase continues as Acting Head of Senior Schooling in a part-time capacity, and is available on Fridays.

It has been a busy start to the year in Senior Schooling, with a number of students changing subjects, or starting external programs. Year 11 students must have finalised all subject changes by the end of Week 2and Year 12 students must have finalised all subject changes by the end of Week 3. Students completing external programs such as EQIP, Larshar or a school-based apprenticeship/traineeship should now have this showing on their timetable. If this has not yet occurred, they need to see Ms Jounquay or Mr Boase to organise an External Program Enrolment form.

Work experience application forms are due by 15th February. We strongly encourage all Years 10 to 12 students to participate in work experience as it is an excellent opportunity to gain some exposure and experience in a career field they are interested in. Forms are available from the Senior Room.

Work Experience Dates
Attention Year 11 & 12 students.  Work Experience applications for Term 1 Week 10 are due by 15 February. All applications are required to pay $40 at the office prior to submitting the application.

Please then return the application and attach a copy of your receipt showing proof of payment and hand to Tracey in the senior room.

Please see Tracey in the Senior Schooling Room for the work experience application forms. Any questions please call 49714309.

New Queensland Certificate of Education System
This year marks the first year of the new Queensland Certificate of Education system. Our Year 11 students are the first senior cohort to progress through this system. Those students who wish to continue onto university at the end of Year 12 will graduate with an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) rather than an OP. Additionally, a number of senior subjects have changed and the requirements for a QCE have been amended. We have spent a significant amount of time last year in Year 10 preparing our students for this change, so it should be a seamless transition for our students. QCAA has published a fantastic website if you would like more information: https://myqce.qcaa.qld.edu.au/.

Our Year 12 students will graduate from the 'old' system with no changes to how they gain a Queensland Certificate of Education. Toolooa SHS and QCAA are still highly committed to ensuring our Year 12s successfully graduate at the end of the year and processes for our Year 12s remain the same as in the past. The QCS Test will be occurring in Term 3 and information about this will go home in a timely manner. Toolooa SHS expects that all of our Year 12 students exit at the end of the year with a Queensland Certificate of Education and we will be working closely with our students towards this goal.
