Toolooa High Students 6th in the World
Toolooa State High Students Izabeya Jones (year 9) and Jasmyn Dew (year 12) were two gymnasts who were part of the Womens International Trio that recently competed in the World Age Group Competition in Putian, China.
Izabeya and Jasmyn have juggled their school commitments whilst training 30 hours a week with the vision of representing Australia and competing at the World Championships. Only two groups qualified to represent Australia in this division and the girls found out late last year that they had been selected. The girls attended a National Squad Camp in the Gold Coast in January and set off to China at the end of term 1.
The girls competed two routines in the qualifiers and took on the best in the world. They upstaged acrobatic gymnastic favourites ‘Russia’ and finished in 8th position which allowed them entry into the finals. In the finals the young gymnasts rose to the occasion and finished in 6th position above Netherlands and Portugal. The Great Britain trio was crowned world champions followed by Israel and Belgium.
