TOOLOOA STATE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PERFORM A FAMILY FAVOURITE
‘ALICE IN WONDERLAND'

Toolooa state high school recently performed an energetic and fun performance of ‘Alice In Wonderland,’ at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre. 53 cast and crew prepared over 9 months for the colourful show, and delivered an enthusiastic show. Children were on the edge of their seats as their much loved Disney characters were brought to life. After each show the cast and crew surprised the audience by mingling with the crowd in the foyer. Children and adults alike jumped in for photos with the cast and some actors were even asked for autographs.

The Tweedles taught the audience how to shake hands and the Cheshire Cats purred and slinked through the foyer. The staff at Toolooa are so proud of the student’s commitment, enthusiasm and talent. Many community members have passed on fantastic feedback about how much they enjoyed the show, and some children told their parents “now they want to come to Toolooa and be in a musical.” The costumes were designed by our drama teacher Phoebe Huttunen, and hand made by a parent Louisa Window, along with a few other community members and staff at the school.

The musical not only offered an opportunity for students to build confidence and make friends, but also a great chance for those who shy away from the spotlight- to be involved in being a Techie crew member. These students controlled all of the set and prop changes along with the follow spots, music, video cues and lighting changes.

Toolooa love hiring the space at the Entertainment centre due to the quality of the productions held there and the professionalism of the staff. The students are already asking about when the next musical is. The students truly brought these characters to life, and the audience left with enormous smiles on their faces, and whistling catchy tunes such as ‘Zippedy Doo Dah.’ Toolooa offers students a vast array of opportunities within the Arts and other areas as well such as science and sport. We believe strongly in students pursuing excellence in and beyond the school walls, and encourage them to participate where possible in community events such as our school Musical. The staff at Toolooa are extremely dedicated and passionate and devote their time and efforts freely to support student success.
