Year 7 'Meet The Parents' Night

Year 7 ‘Meet The Parents’ Night
On Thursday, March 1st we will be holding our annual year 7 ‘Meet the Parents’ night. It will run from 4:30pm until 6:00pm and will commence with a brief information session for parents in the school Shelter.***
This night, which is an opportunity for parents to visit, learn more about the school and meet with teachers to have a brief chat about year 7 students and how they have begun their high school life, will be supplemented by a free sausage sizzle.
Once the initial presentation has concluded around 4:45pm, parents will be guided by their student’s form and core subject teacher to a range of stalls operated by staff who will provide information about the workings of our school. Areas as varied as Wellbeing, School Nurse, Diverse Learning, Heads of Department, Canteen, Library, uniform and others will be represented. Once each group of parents has been around the stalls, (and had some delicious sausages) the class teacher will take that group to the Year 7 block to speak more specifically about classwork and expectations as well as to answer any general questions.
The focus of the night is for parents and teachers to put faces to names and have a quick, relaxed and informal chat. An opportunity for a more formal discussion, accompanied by Term 1 results, will occur at our Parent Teacher night early in term 2.
Core subject teachers (English/History and Maths/Science) will be in their classrooms and parents will be able to attend both rooms as well as accessing the other subject teachers (HPE, Japanese, Technology, The Arts) who will be stationed inside the Year 7 block.
The approximate timeline for the night is below:
4:30pm - Presentation in the Shelter by Jess Batey (Yr7&9 Deputy Principal) and Craig O’Connor (Yr7 Coordinator)
4:45 pm - The free sausage sizzle kicks off. Soft drinks and bottled water will be available for $1 to help us defray costs. (Please note these must be consumed outside the classrooms)
Parents will go with their child’s form teacher and rotate through each of the stalls, receiving information and asking questions.
5:15pm – Move to Year 7 classrooms. Teachers will introduce themselves to each group and parents will be able to look at student books as well as having a very brief chat with the teacher.
6:00pm - The night concludes.
Ideally, all Year 7 students will be able to attend with their caregivers and do the necessary introductions. After all, they are the focus of our discussions.
If you have any questions about the night or any concerns generally about year 7 in 2018, please contact the school on 49714333.
***Our Shelter is undergoing a renovation which may not be completed in time for this event. An alternate venue will be advised, if necessary, closer to the night.
