Excited Year 6 Students Participate In Extended Transitions
Over the last two weeks, we have had the privilege of meeting 25 students who will be attending Toolooa State High School and will continue to transition to high school through an additional three visits. Ms Morgan, Mr Roby, Jimmy Cody have worked closely with local primary schools, Kin Kora, South, West, Clinton and Central to support students with additional needs and their transition into High School for 2021. Students participating in the extended transition program, have the chance to attend five sessions prior to coming to the whole cohort transition days on Monday the 30th November and Tuesday the 1st December.
It is fairly normal for a child to feel stress and anxiety about high school. In the extended transition program, students are exposed to various routines, locations and people in an attempt to reduce the anxieties of transitioning to a high school. We know that students require positive relationships with teachers to enhance learning and this has all begun in preparation for our year 6's to kick off next year in the best possible way. The other primary schools send their staff members along also as this is a good chance to provide specific information about the particular needs of students also.
In week 2 students met Mr Harrison (Principal) and Ms Batey (Yr 7 Deputy Principal) and then later that day students were sent on a scavenger hunt to find them. Thanks to Ms Morgan and Jimmy for bringing the fun and helping these students connect well with our school!
If your child is transitioning to Toolooa next year and may have additional needs then please make sure that you are in contact with the relevant year level Deputy Principal. We know these times of transition are so important for children.
