As we near closer to the school holidays, I’d like to wish every member of our school community a safe and relaxing break. 2020 continues to be a year that tests us, but Toolooa keeps on keeping on. We should all be proud of ourselves and what we’ve achieved this term.
Last week’s RUOK Day celebrations were a tremendous success. Thanks to our wellbeing team, led by Silke Hetherington, our students got to engage in some fun activities, listen to live music, and – my favourite – pat a therapy dog (thanks Chappy)! There was a wonderful vibe around the school for RUOK day, and it was a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness for mental health, and promote checking in on one-another.
Another success this term was the QMEA Drone Challenge, put together by our very own Dave Capill (HoD – Junior Secondary). Secondary students from around the district were able to participate in this challenge, despite COVID restrictions, and have a great time whilst learning some valuable STEM skills. The STEM Squad continues to challenge themselves in other areas too; they’ve just completed the Scratch Challenge (coding), they’re working towards First Lego League in term four, as well as planning to facilitate an exciting new opportunity alongside the Gladstone Ports Corporation.
Our Junior Secondary Leadership Team have also been keeping busy and contributing to our school community. Particularly of note is our School Beautification Team, who have created an amazing mural made from upcycled bottle caps. The mural looks great, and it will be proudly hung in the Junior Secondary Precinct over the holidays. Further, the Student Wellbeing Team did a tremendous job assisting with the RUOK Day celebrations last week.
Planning is currently underway for our annual Awards Ceremony. Although things will look a little different this year, we are doing everything within our power to make it a special occasion for our students.
