With Jess Batey

In the last couple of weeks, we have undertaken the first steps in our annual Year 6 into 7 transition processes. We’ve hosted one parent information session (another one to come), handed out some enrolment packages, started conversations with primary schools, and started enrolment interviews. If you were unable to book in for one of our information sessions, please email Mr Capill (dcapi0@eq.edu.au); we have plenty of supplementary transition information that can be sent through to you.
Despite restrictions being in place, some of Toolooa’s exciting extra-curricular opportunities are still going ahead. Our junior secondary leaders have been busy engaging in their ongoing projects, including the creation of a mural from recycled bottle caps, the development of videos to assist with transition, and recording of reading to share with our primary school friends. The STEM Squad has also been very busy, working through a Scratch competition, continuing to learn how to use drones, and preparing for the upcoming drone competition. Congratulations to all students involved, and thanks to the staff for their efforts.
All our Year 7 students will be given the opportunity to engage in a cyber-safety session on Tuesday in week 9 of this term. We are excited about this opportunity, as students will be learning about a range of topics to ensure their safety and a positive online presence. Topics covered in the session include:
Proactive uses and benefits of social media
Being a positive bystander and ways to deal with cyberbullying behaviours
Current and upcoming strategies and trends in social technologies
Account security and privacy settings
Responding to negative online content
Being a positive digital citizen and maintaining a positive digital reputation
The law relating to online behaviours, real-world and social consequences.
Assessment calendars have been distributed to all students this week. Please speak with your child to check that they’re on top of their tasks for the term. Remember that organisation and time management are often the keys to success in assessment.
