From The Deputy

With Jess Batey

Week four has been a busy week so far, particularly for our Year 7 and 9 students who have been participating in the NAPLAN tests. Our students have done a fantastic job, as predicted.

On Tuesday, they engaged with a language conventions test and writing task – narrative. On Wednesday, they participated in a reading test, and this morning (Thursday), the students have done their numeracy tests. I commend all of the students who were in attendance for these tests. The overwhelming majority of students have done a tremendous job and put in their best effort.

In addition to NAPLAN, our Year 10 cohort attended a careers expo yesterday with their EFL (Education for Life) teachers. We hope that the students got some valuable information from the expo and that it helped to guide their future direction.

Last week, we had our 2021 Parent/Teacher Interviews. I’d like to thank all the families for their attendance and engagement.  At Toolooa, we strongly value the relationship between school and home, so we appreciate the effort that families made to join us last week. As always, please feel free to chat with any of the team at school if you ever have any questions or concerns.

Assessment calendars have now gone out to all students. It is recommended that families keep the assessment calendars somewhere central in the home (eg. on the fridge) so that parents and students can keep on top of the dates.

Finally, I’d like to extend my congratulations to all our Junior Secondary Gold Award recipients, who were recognised at last week’s Junior Secondary Parade. It was the largest number of Gold Awards that I’ve seen in some time, which was fantastic to see. Congratulations to all!

Jess Batey
Deputy Principal
