From The Deputy

With Jess Batey

Despite things being very tricky across Queensland at the moment, our students are moving forward and achieving fantastic things as usual. This week, we’ve seen the semester one Gold Awards handed out on Junior and Senior Parades. It was fantastic to see such a large number of students presented with these awards, given the high standard associated with them (majority A’s, with nothing less than B on report card). Soon, in Year Level Parades, Silver Awards and Excellence Awards will be presented. These are also very impressive achievements, which align to our school’s core values.

In other exciting news, I’ve been so impressed with the dedication of our students to the wider community. Recently, our Interact Team – led by Mrs Read – participated in the Relay for Life and took out the title of ‘Highest Youth Fundraising Team’ once again.

Additionally, our Junior Leaders – under the leadership of Mr Capill and his team – have started collecting bottles and cans for Containers for Change. These students emptied the collection bins last week, which ended up filling a 360L bin. That’s a lot of recycling! The Junior Leaders and Interact students also worked with Mr Mercer (groundskeeper) last week to plant trees for National Tree Day. Not only are these trees helping to beautify the top end of the school, but they’re also contributing to a healthier environment for us all. I’m so proud of these students for giving up their time to contribute so positively to the community.

As mentioned in the last newsletter, assessment calendars have now gone out (hard copies) to all students. Further, the calendars have been uploaded onto our website and linked to our Facebook page. We encourage families to work through the calendars with their children to ensure best organisation.

We recognise that we are facing uncertain times in relation to COVID-19 again at the moment. Rest assured that we will always put the wellbeing of our students and staff as our first priority, and that we will communicate with our school community in the most timely fashion if there are any changes to the normal school routine. Thank you for your ongoing support. We know that we are incredibly lucky to have such a supportive team.
