2021 ADF Future Innovators Award
Last year, Toolooa nominated two outstanding students, one in year 10 and the other in year 12, who demonstrated outstanding abilities in mathematics and science. The Australian Defence Force in encouraging the next generation of innovators, critical thinkers and problem solvers supports students with the ADF Future Innovators Award.
The award recognises recipients’ science and mathematics abilities while highlighting the value the Navy, Army and Air Force place on STEM skills and STEM career opportunities within Defence. The Year 10 recipients receive a prize of $250 and Year 12 recipients receive a prize of $550. It is with great pleasure we can announce that the 2021 recipient for the year 10 award is Alyssa Pease and the year 12 award is Drishti Salaria.
Our Priceless Past
On Monday 28th February, Gladstone Mayor Matt Burnett, Deputy Mayor Kahn Goodluck and a number of local councillors, virtually met with students in our year 9 extension English class to congratulate them on their incredible efforts in the 2021 Our Priceless Past exhibition. The exhibition has been conducted annually since 1999 and provides an incredible opportunity for local students to learn about the inspirational stories of local seniors. In Term 4, 27 students were invited to conduct interviews and record oral histories. Their work was supported by their teacher, Mrs McDonald and local journalist Paulette Flint. The students did an exceptional job and have been recognised for their attention to detail, relational skills, and skilful writing ability. The students work has been published and is currently on exhibition touring the Gladstone region.
We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm and engagement with the project. Thank you Mrs McDonald for supporting the students and thank you to the staff of the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum for providing this fantastic opportunity.
