Hello Toolooa SHS Community Members,
This fortnight, we held the Junior Leadership Awards Night Auditions, where 11 amazing students showcased their ability to represent our school at the Awards Night. Each speaker did a remarkable job, and I am incredibly proud of our Year 7 to 9 students for stepping up, speaking with such eloquence, and putting their best foot forward as they work towards their Leadership Goals.
Following the speeches, students participated in a blind vote to select the most outstanding representatives from the Junior Leadership group. I am thrilled to announce that the students selected to represent the school at Awards Night are Emilia Heier, Mia Hetherington, Lacey, and Jyoti Warrier.
Additionally, this week our Junior Environmental and Science Leaders, as a reward for consistent high attendance leadership excellence, will get to meet Dr. Felicity Melville from Vision Environment in Gladstone and spend a day with their leadership team and teachers working around the school to further their programs that they have been working on throughout the year.
Vision Environment ANZ (VE ANZ) is a company of environmental monitoring specialists with decades of expertise in water quality, marine ecology, and other environmental services. VE ANZ combines local knowledge with international resources, offering a highly qualified team of full-time research staff, dedicated laboratory facilities, specialised field equipment, and a fleet of commercial vessels. During the visit, Dr. Melville will outline the vital work they do in the Gladstone region, and the students will engage in hands-on activities, including measuring seawater parameters using a water quality meter and examining plankton under a microscope.
Vision has given Toolooa a really exciting opportunity for our students to be able to see the work done by STEM Leaders in our local region and I hope that some of these students may follow in Dr. Felicity Melville’s footsteps, identifying the interesting and exciting jobs that they may enter if they continue to build their capabilities in these areas.
It’s an exciting and productive week for our Junior Leadership students!
