Our QCIA Gardening Project
At the end of last term we began planning our garden project; our aim was to grow our own food and create a space on our Toolooa House deck that was aesthetically pleasing. Firstly, we planned and measured our spaces, prepared the gardens by cleaning, weeding and levelling.
Then we researched the herbs, fruits and vegies that would suit our climate and would harvest within a reasonable duration of time. We are very grateful to have some generous donations from our P&C and Bunnings including vouchers, seedlings, vertical garden beds, potting mix and tools! We were also very lucky to have Brooke and Olivia from Bunnings give up their time to talk with our class about water and energy conservation and they also spent time in our garden space providing advice about where to plant our new seedlings, taking into consideration space and sunlight. So far our lettuce has been ready to harvest and we have enjoyed using this in our chicken Caesar salads – picking our own food definitely makes it taste better!
A special thanks to Scotty our groundsman for his time and help also. We are very thankful to everyone who has helped us and we are so excited to watch our garden grow and use our food in our cooking program!
