With Jess Batey
Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed their break and has come back with a great attitude for term two.
Over the weekend, we marched in the Dawn Service and the ANZAC Parade in Gladstone as a school community. I thank each and every community member who attended the services and paid their respects.
We have another long weekend coming up with Monday being a public holiday for Labour Day.
NAPLAN is coming up this term during week 4. All students in Years 7 and 9 are expected to engage in the tests unless parents have a philosophical or religious objection to the testing. Students will engage in tests during the morning sessions of Tues, Wed and Thurs (11th – 13th May) and will go back into their normal scheduled classes thereafter. Students will be provided with instructions on where to go for each of the tests. NAPLAN is not something that students need to be stressed about; it is a point-in-time test which gives our school an indication of the progress in the areas of reading, writing, language conventions and numeracy. Parents of students in Year 7 and 9 should have received a letter in the mail earlier in the year with more specific details about the tests. If you have any questions about NAPLAN, or you’d like to discuss any concerns, please contact our Junior Secondary Head of Department, Dave Capill, on 49 714 389.
Wishing everyone a happy and successful term two!
