From The Deputy
With Jess Batey

Transitions are in full swing here at Toolooa at the moment! We have just farewelled our Year 12 cohort, sending them off into the world of work and study. The final week celebrations went off without a hitch! I’d like to thank Mrs Read, Silke Hetherington and the whole senior schooling team for the work that went into making such a successful send-off for our kids. They have done us proud, and we look forward to seeing their results once they’re released. For graduating students who require support in finding further training or employment, please contact Michelle Eggmolesse in her Link & Launch position – she is on site and ready to help!

Our junior secondary students are in transition mode at the moment also, with the Year 6 into 7 students preparing to attend our Orientation Days next week. We have also hosted selected groups of students for two additional transition events – one for students with additional needs, and one for incoming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. It has been a pleasure working with the incoming students and their families, and I’d like to thank Mr Capill, Mrs Small, Mr Roby, Mrs Cook, Ambrose Coolwell, Bree Saltner, and the whole junior secondary team for the work they’ve put into a successful high school transition.

Finally, all other students who are transitioning from year to year should have completed and submitted their subject selection forms for 2022. If your child is yet to submit theirs, please encourage them to do so ASAP.

Our Year 10 and 11 students finish the school year at the end of this week. For the junior students remaining, they will spend the final week and a half rotating through activities in the ‘alternate program’. For the first two days, they will revise and complete their maths and science assessments. Following this, they will move around in form class groups, meeting different teachers and having a go at interesting tasks. They have a pool day on Thursday of week 10, which will be a fun way to finish the school year. If your child hasn’t returned their consent form and payment for the pool day, please get them to do so as soon as possible.

As the school year starts to wrap up, I’d like to thank the school community for its ongoing support. This has been a huge year, and our school has gone from strength to strength. I couldn’t be more proud of our kids, and we know how lucky we are to have this community surrounding us. For those leaving us at the end of this week, I hope you have a fantastic summer break. For the junior years, I’m looking forward to spending some more time with you over the next fortnight, finishing off the year on a strong note!
