R U OK? Day 2024

Today our school is celebrating, along with many other Australians, RU OK? Day.

It was 1995, when much-loved Barry Larkin was far from ok and his suicide left family and friends in deep grief and with endless questions. In 2009, his son Gavin Larkin chose to champion just one question to honour his father and to try and protect other families from the pain his endured.

What started as an idea to make a documentary to raise awareness, the team Gavin gathered quickly realised the documentary alone wouldn’t be enough. To genuinely change behaviour Australia-wide, a national campaign was needed. And from this realisation, R U OK? was born.
"Are you OK?"

Gavin remained a passionate champion of the fact a conversation could change a life, even as cancer ended his in 2011. His legacy is a national Conversation Movement that is equipping Australians with the skills and confidence to support those struggling with life.

This year’s theme is “Ask R U OK ANY DAY” – a theme that fits well focus at Toolooa SHS as we pride ourselves on taking the time to consider the well being of all member of our school community all the time.

As we raise awareness on this 2024 RU OK? Day, we ask you to that a conversation using the 4 steps could change a life

We are so privileged to have a school community who choose to prioritise looking after each other and RUOK? Day at Toolooa State High School highlighted this. From activities on Toolooa Turf to kids wearing yellow to staff celebrating together with amazing staffroom morning teas using their celebration packs,  the “No Qualifications Needed” theme stood strong, loud and proud.

We hope you enjoy looking at some of the photos of our day as much as we enjoyed raising awareness and making memories.

Enjoy your upcoming break and we look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 4!
