Congratulations Elle Hetherington
A huge congratulations to one of Toolooa State High School’s Captains, for receiving a QLD Secondary Schools Citizenship Award.

The Queensland Branch of the Association invites nominations annually for Secondary Schools’ Citizenship Awards from Queensland Secondary Schools.

The Secondary Schools Citizenship Awards have been conducted in Queensland since 1999.

The purpose of the Awards is to recognise students for their community service and remind us all of the significant level of volunteering undertaken by young Australians; to encourage students to think about Australian citizenship and the importance of contributing to their community through service and involvement; and to make students more aware of the Australian Honours system and the ideals of good citizenship that it enshrines.

Selected students may not necessarily be academic or sporting high-achievers, but they will have displayed a commitment to bettering the world in which they live in and will be excellent role models. Schools are encouraged to nominate not only school leaders but also worthy students who may not have a school leadership role but nevertheless demonstrate outstanding citizenship and community service commitment. Toolooa State High School was fortunate to have many outstanding nominees for this award and along with Elle Hetherington; Allysa Pease and Kaye Ng were also nominated.

The students nominated will generally have impressive lists of activities in which they are actively involved. They may range from door-knocking for numerous charities to fund-raising initiatives, involvement in school and community events, consulting with local government, youth parliaments, visiting nursing homes, helping senior citizens, running youth clubs or advocacy groups, surf life saving, mentoring younger students & public speaking. A panel of judges from The Order of Australia Association, Queensland Branch selects the twelve most outstanding submissions. These students receive a prestigious award engraved with their name and incorporating the Association emblem and a Certificate of Merit.

There will be a special Presentation on Friday 15 September 2023 at 2:00pm at Parliament House, Brisbane where the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC CVO KC, the former (26th) Governor of Queensland will present Elle and the other 11 winning nominated students with their Award.

Congratulations to Cohen Beach on his selection in the
Queensland Boys' State Team!

From Football Queensland:

THE QUEENSLAND SQUADS FOR THE 2023 NATIONAL YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS (NYC) FOR BOYS AND THE STATE OF ORIGIN CUP WERE ANNOUNCED LAST WEEK, FEATURING PLAYERS FROM ACROSS THE STATEWIDE FQ ACADEMY PROGRAM.

The Under 14 Boys squads will represent Queensland and compete against Victoria in the inaugural State of Origin Cup.

"Football Queensland has again implemented a ‘One Queensland’ approach to player selection for this year’s National Youth Championships, ensuring the most talented footballers from across the entire state have been identified,” FQ Lead Club Development Ambassador – Talent Tom Laxton said.

The selection of Queensland squads follows a rigorous talent identification process undertaken by more than 50 FQ Academy talent ID coaches, who conducted over 2,100 formal player assessments for around 700 players across the entire state including at both regional and state FQ Academy carnivals.

As a result of this, players from each of the five FQ Academy regional centres have been selected in this year’s state team squads alongside Metro players from the FQ Academy program and Brisbane Roar FC.

“It will also be fantastic to see our Under 14 state team take on Victoria in the inaugural State of Origin Cup this October as we provide further opportunities for our young Queenslanders to test their skills against their interstate counterparts.”
